What a Used Wheel Loader Costs in Egypt: 2026 Market Data
Ask what a used wheel loader costs in Egypt and you get the same answer from everyone: «سعر تجاري» — call and we'll talk. Nine ads in ten carry no figure at all. That leaves buyers, and anyone renting instead of buying, without a reference point for the most traded machine in the country.
EXON reads Egypt's largest public heavy-equipment groups on Facebook and counts what is listed, what is asked for, and what sellers want for it. This article takes the loader figures from the snapshot dated 20 September 2026 and explains what they do and do not tell you. The live version, with every chart and table, is on the prices tab of EXON Radar.
The headline number
Out of 25,852 machines offered for sale in the window, 6,184 were wheel loaders — 24% of the market, four times the excavator count. Only 2,489 of all machine ads stated a price, and after removing reposts, foreign-currency listings and implausible figures, 195 priced loader ads remained.
| Used wheel loader, Egypt, EGP | Figure |
|---|---|
| Median asking price | 620,000 |
| Lower quartile (25% of ads below) | 270,000 |
| Upper quartile (25% of ads above) | 1,100,000 |
| Priced ads behind these figures | 195 |
| Share of all machine ads that state a price | 9.6% |
Read the spread before the median. The middle half of loader ads runs from EGP 270K to EGP 1.1M — a factor of four. That is not noise; it is the market telling you that "a used loader" is not one product.
Why the range is so wide: age, not brand
The median loader on offer in Egypt was built in 1997. That is the oldest median of any machine class in the data — excavators sit at 2012, trucks at 2019 — and it is the single biggest driver of price.
The brand mix explains why. CAT accounts for 49.7% of branded loader listings, Komatsu 21.1%, TCM 13.4%, XCMG 4.2%. The CAT population is overwhelmingly 1990s 9-series machines: the most-listed models in the whole market are the CAT 966F (267 listings), CAT 930 (233), CAT 920 (180), CAT 966E (151) and CAT 910 (140). The median CAT machine of any type in the data was built in 1992.
So the bottom of the range is a 30-year-old CAT 920 or 930 that has been through one or more engine overhauls. The top is a late Chinese import — XCMG machines in the data have a median build year of 2025 — or a low-hour Komatsu from the 2000s. A single median across both is honest, but it is not a price you should expect to pay for any specific machine.
What sellers write, and what it means
Because the price is missing, the description carries the value. Four words do most of the work, and the counts below are across every machine listed, not loaders alone:
- استيراد ("import") — 3,001 machines. Brought in used from Europe or the Gulf, sold on the premise that it was better maintained than local stock. The most common condition word in the market.
- زيرو ("zero") — 2,620 machines. Like new, barely used. The strongest claim a seller makes and, for a 1990s loader, one to test rather than trust.
- كسر استيراد ("salvage import") — 705 machines. Imported damaged or written off abroad and rebuilt in Egypt. Priced below a clean import, and the buyer should know which one they are looking at.
- عمرة ("overhaul") — 528 machines. The engine, and sometimes the transmission, has been rebuilt. On a 966F this is a selling point; ask who did it and when.
Model year is stated in only 24% of ads and engine hours in 6%. A loader ad with a year, hours and a price is unusual enough that the seller is signalling seriousness.
Dollars, and the new-import market
146 machines in the window were quoted in US dollars rather than pounds, at a median of $60,000, and they are mostly new Chinese units — XCMG first, then LiuGong, Hyundai and Lonking. These are importers selling in the currency they bought in, and they are excluded from the EGP ranges above. If you are comparing a new Chinese loader against a rebuilt CAT, you are comparing two markets that do not overlap in the data.
What the market did over the summer
The median priced machine across all classes moved from EGP 565K in June to 535K in July, 630K in August and 600K in September. That looks like movement, but with roughly a hundred priced ads a month it mostly reflects which machines happened to be listed. Treat it as a level, not a trend.
How to use these numbers
An asking price is the seller's opening position on a machine you have not inspected. The way to use the range is as a sanity check:
- Place the ad in the spread. A 966F at EGP 450K with a stated overhaul and hours is inside the middle half. The same machine at 1.2M needs a reason — a recent rebuild with paperwork, or a genuine low-hour import.
- Price the year, not the model. Two CAT 930s can sit at opposite ends of the range legitimately. Ask for the year first, then the hours, then the overhaul history.
- Count the repost. 34% of sale posts in the market are the same ad bumped again, and 390 ads were posted five or more times. An ad you keep seeing is a machine that has not sold at that price.
- Read demand. Loaders draw 19 requests for every 100 listings — steady demand, but nothing like the scarcity in dump trucks or bulldozers. A loader buyer has choice and can afford to walk away.
When the answer is not to buy
At a median of EGP 620K for a machine with a median build year of 1997, a used loader is a commitment to the workshop as much as to the site. Fleets in Egypt generally price a maintained, operated loader by the day, week or month, which turns the purchase question into a utilisation question: a loader needed for one earthworks phase costs a fraction of the ownership decision. The general trade-off is covered in renting versus buying heavy equipment in Egypt, and EXON's published loader rates are on the rental rates tab, with the machines themselves under loaders for rent.
Figures are from the EXON Radar snapshot dated 20 September 2026: public posts in 10 Egyptian heavy-equipment groups on Facebook, read automatically, classified and aggregated. Prices are asking prices in EGP, de-duplicated per seller, machine and price. No post text, name or contact detail is republished.
